I am a licensed psychologist, with a psychodynamic psychoanalytic focus. What I offer on this site, however, is not therapy, psychotherapy or psychoanalysis. I have chosen to call it counseling. This word can be spelled counseling as well as counseling. The first variant, I understand, is more common in British English, while the second works best in American English. (Or if it was the other way around.) A related word in Swedish is consultations. However, it sounds too commercial, I think. What it’s about is a more open conversation, to seek answers together. The focus is on such issues, problems, which lie on the border between psychology and spirituality, religion. Nor is it pastoral care in the usual sense. Priests and deacons may have similar conversations, on the border between religious belief and psychology, existential conversations, but normally they themselves have a religious belief on which the conversation partly rests. It does not do that here. I’m not some sort of spiritual therapist, it’s not spiritual therapy I offer. What is similar consultations called within those environments? Healing, spiritual guidance, channeling, perhaps.
