Ex: Ulf Ekman
In March 2014, Ulf Ekman, pastor emeritus of the Christian free church The Word of Life, writes an opinion piece in Dagens Nyheter(http://www.dn.se/debatt/darfor-lamnar-jag-livets-ord-och-blir-katolik/, the page visited 2014-11-30, at 12:00) where he announces that he is now leaving the organization he founded and instead becomes Catholic. The motives he cites can be seen as prototypical for a maturity late in life. Ekman refers partly to divisions within Christianity in general, to which he no longer wants to contribute, and partly to the suffering he has caused others through his commitment to the Word of Life:
"I have come to realize that the movement I myself has represented for the last 30 years, despite successes and much good that has taken place in various mission fields, is nevertheless part of the ever-ongoing Protestant fragmentation of Christendom. Moreover, I must note with sadness that frictions, disagreements and disputes have created an an enemy and that individual people have been inflicted wounds and sufferings through their contacts with the movement. In this I myself and other representatives of the Word of Life have a responsibility, and I am sincerely sorry for what has hurt and what has caused people to suffer."
He also apologizes for the criticism of the Catholic Church that he himself has previously made: "As a Protestant, I have been influenced by and embraced a common anti-Catholic rhetoric and at our earlier stage I both wrote and spoke negatively and hurtfully about the Catholic Church. This is something I truly regret and regret today."
We do not need to take a position in one direction or the other in this history. We can be content to see this change of course, and the motives set out, precisely as prototypical. This is how a maturity along the P-axis could be expressed.
