I wanted to write something about prayer. Googled a little. Research is ongoing, especially in the United States. Different aspects. Intercession (no effect). Prayer and one’s own health (tangible effect but difficult, it seems, to separate from the good effect of being in a congregation). Etc.
I myself am in favor of prayer. Whether there is a god or a metaphysical context that receives your prayers. Warm “agnostic” prayer?
An activity that can calibrate and help direct the interior towards things that are fundamental to a good life, I think. Emotionally regulating, anxiety-reduced, too. Offloading. Can strengthen an outdated virtues, such as patience, trust. Have something that the life-maximizing affirmation often lacks. Wonder, trust, unpretentiousness. How about meditation, yoga? Similarities and differences?
Nowadays, there is often talk about how to “hack” everything possible. Dating, career, body aging, etc. Prayer as a kind of spiritual, psychological “self-hack”?
